Uniform
Once a boy becomes a troop member, we recommend (but don't require, and we do offer sponsorships) getting a t-shirt and a hat based on their trail as their informal uniform.
Trail Life offers three different types of uniforms that serve different purposes. The Troop Uniform (Formal button up shirt), the Travel Uniform (Polo shirt), and the Trail Uniform (T-shirt). It is preferred that youth and adult Trailmen wear the formal Troop Uniform to all ceremonies. The formal "Class A" uniform is required for the Navigator and Adventurers. The formal uniform also includes shoulder loops, and Troop Number Patch and the shirt must be tucked in. Since the younger boys grow so quickly, the T-Shirt is acceptable for the Woodlands. Sweat paints and other athletic pants/shorts are not to be worn. Closed-toed shoes are required.
If you are interested in buying the package with the button-up ceremony shirt and pants, we want to let you know that there have been issues with the sizes of the cargo pants sold by Trail Life. You can purchase similar cargo/khaki/outdoor style pants outside of the Trail Life store, like these Hiking Cargo Pants. Pants are to be very dark green or dark gray hiking pants, or dark jeans. Reach out to the leader of their trail for more information.
For the Woodlands trail (elementary boys) here is the minimum informal uniform: Shirt (Trail Life Shop Link), Hat (Trail Life Shop Link), or Second Hat option (Trail Life Shop Link).
Lanyard: Youth Trailmen are welcome to wear a lanyard with their name card printed from Trail Life Connect. Parents are to print the boys name card, and the troop will supply the lanyard. All Registered Adults who have successfully passed the background check and the Child Safety and Youth Protection Training are required to wear an official Trail Life Lanyard and ID card.
